Websites that bring families closer together
It's easy to make a great
website that's fun for your friends and family to use. Here are a
few tips to help you get started.
- Start small. Most
people (even if your baby was just born) already have a backlog of
pictures, and sorting through them seems overwhelming. Our
recommendation: don't. At least not yet. Start
with one recent event, or even just pictures from the last 2 weeks.
Once you get your first batch of pictures loaded you'll feel great
about sharing the latest and greatest pictures with your friends and
family, and you can always go back later to fill in the older
pictures if you want to (or not).
- Group by date or event. You'll
want an easy way to group your pictures into batches. We'll
post a single gallery page of photos for each folder you create on
your computer. Try putting your pictures into 2 week batches,
or organize them by event (birthday party, trip to the beach, etc.)
- Take lots of pictures. If
you're using a digital camera, the pictures are essentially free,
and the more pictures you take the better chance you have of getting
a good one. Blaze away!
- Update it regularly.
Choose a regular schedule and stick to it. Post updates at least
once/month – we find every two weeks works great. Regular updates
will keep your friends and family excited about coming back often to
see what’s new, and it will keep you from having to face sorting
through months worth of pictures that you can't even remember
taking.
- Post news with your pictures.
Personal stories about the pictures and your baby's latest tricks
add a whole new dimension to the pictures that friends and family
will really cherish. You’ll also have a record of your baby’s
milestones you can look back at later.
